Umno says no to Anwar, DAP

KUALA LUMPUR: Umno has reiterated that it is consistent with its previous decision of not being involved in any political cooperation with PKR President Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and the DAP.

Umno secretary-general Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan said the Barisan Nasional (BN) component member's position on the matter had already been decided and adopted by its supreme council members before this.

He added that Umno will also proceed with its previously taken decision to strengthen BN (BN) and bolster Muafakat Nasional (MN), which has now been joined by PAS and Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu).

"I as the Umno Secretary General and (as well as) Umno President, Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi still adhere to the decision taken by the previous Umno Supreme Council meeting.

"That is, to strengthen BN, bolster MN. There is no DAP. There is no relationship with leaders who are in cahoots with DAP such as Anwar, Tun Dr Mahathir (Mohamad)," he said in a Twitter posting.

Ahmad's statement is believed to have stemmed from various claims that some Umno federal lawmakers are backing Anwar to form the next government.
