Drastic increase in Covid-19 cases in Selangor [NSTTV]

PUTRAJAYA: Selangor has seen a drastic increase in Covid-19 cases since the end of September, after the entry and return of individuals from Sabah.

Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the first cluster reported in Selangor in the third wave was the Jalan Apas cluster, detected on Sept 28.

"This cluster is linked to a family which had returned from Sabah.

"The increase in local infections in Selangor started on Oct 2, and has been increasing consistently until today," he said at a press conference today.

Selangor today recorded 132 Covid-19 positive cases, bringing the total number of cases in Selangor to 3,489. He added there were 26 active clusters in Selangor, with 18 (69.2 per cent) local infection clusters, while eight (30.8) per cent had links to individuals coming back from Sabah.

Six clusters reported since Oct 11 are linked to local infections, said Dr Noor Hisham.

"Nine out of 26 clusters are closely linked to infections from work (34.6 per cent), while one is linked to a shopping mall (3.8 per cent.)

"This is due to the density of the population and the high movement rate among the public in Selangor."
