PUTRAJAYA: The Health Ministry has denied claims that there has been manipulation of the numbers of Covid-19 cases in the country.
Its Director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said that data is gathered through an information system used by state Health Departments to key in daily caseloads.
"We receive the data every day as of 12 noon through the public health information system.
"It is not only from me, but a team from behind the scenes who can observe the data and the clusters. This is not a manipulation, these are the facts that we have and have used since day one," he said in a press conference here today.
Dr Noor Hisham said that the ministry had already projected that the number of daily cases in the country would enter four figures.
"Maybe after Oct 31, there will be no more three digit (cases), only four digits, unless we can lower the infection rate to below 1.0 – only then can we see improvements," he added.
A politician recently claimed that the Health Ministry has been manipulating Covid-19 case numbers in order to 'justify' a state of emergency declaration.
Dr Noor Hisham responded by saying that he shared case details since December with the Malay Rulers in their special meeting yesterday.
He said he also shared case projections, scenarios and on-field duties by health personnel in Sabah.
During the meeting with the Malay Rulers, he was also asked about vaccine procurement.
He said that the ministry has yet to obtain a complete report on the nine vaccines which are in their third phase of research.
