Norihan discharged from hospital, gets hero's welcome

GEORGE TOWN: Sergeant Norihan Tari, 39, who was seriously injured in a shootout with smugglers at the Malaysian-Thai border in Perlis last Tuesday, has been discharged from the Penang Hospital and allowed to return home to Bidor, Perak, today.

Norihan, who left the hospital at 9.30am accompanied by his wife Fardilla Adam, 35, were ushered home by several police officers and personnel.

Fardilla said they arrived home in Bidor about three hours later and Norihan was delighted to be home.

She said he was much better.

"I am grateful that my husband has been discharged from hospital. In fact, my husband is very happy and he couldn't wait to meet our children.

"He will take a break and return to work after full recovery," she said today.

Meanwhile, Battalion 3 PGA commanding officer Superintendent Rosman Kasman said Norihan arrived at the Battalion 3 PGA camp in Bidor, Perak, about 12.30pm to a hero's welcome.

Rosman said Norihan was getting better and more cheerful, and could not wait to return to the field to work.

"Norihan was given a hero's welcome in a simple ceremony held at the lobby.

"He looks so much healthier. We are happy to see that he is recovering well," he added.

Norihan and Sergeant Baharuddin Ramli, who was 54, were engaged in a shootout with a group of smugglers at the Malaysian-Thai border in Perlis on Nov 24.

In the 3.10am incident, Baharuddin was shot dead while Norihan was seriously wounded.

Both of them were from Battalion 3 (Senoi Praaq), Northern Brigade, General Operations Force (GOF) on duty in Ops Benteng.
