Orang Asli ex-cop with 23 children receives donation from police fund

KOTA BARU: A former Senoi Praaq policeman from the Orang Asli community was among the first in Kelantan to receive donations from "Tabung Amanah Warisan Polis", recently.

Hussin Sani, 81, who had suffered a stroke and has been bedridden for two years, received the donation from Kelantan police chief Deputy Commissioner Datuk Shafien Mamat in a simple ceremony held in Gua Musang.

Hussin, who has 23 children from seven marriages and nearly 100 great-grandchildren, was last attached to the Gua Musang district police station's Special Branch unit.

The former policeman, who retired in 1994 with the rank of Junior Liaison Officer (JLO), was in a semi-conscious stage at his home in Kuala Betis.

Shafien said the programme, which started last week, is part of the state's "Ziarah Prihatin" effort to help former police personnel who have contributed to the country.

"During the communist era, Hussin was among those who had defended the country from the Malayan Communist Party and because of his contributions to the nation, he received awards from the Kelantan Palace and the police force.

"So far, three former policemen received the donation, and Hussin was one of them.

"He received donations comprising cash and daily necessities," he said.

Shafien said the programme would be continued in other districts in Kelantan soon.
