Kelantan plans two more centres for low-risk patients

KOTA BARU: The Kelantan government is planning to set up two more quarantine and treatment centres to house low-risk Covid-19 patients in the state.

State Government, Health and Housing Committee chairman Dr Izani Husin said the centres would be set up at Pusat Tarbiah Islamiah Kelantan (PUTIK) in Pengkalan Chepa, near here, and the Gua Musang Civic Hall.

"Covid-19 cases recorded in Kelantan have increased lately and as preparation for more coming cases, the state government has decided to set up two more quarantine and treatment centres here and in Gua Musang.

"We will place 150 beds in PUTIK and 100 beds at the Gua Musang Civil Hall. The two centres are expected to begin operations soon," he told reporters after attending the state National Security Council meeting chaired by Menteri Besar Datuk Ahmad Yakob.

Also present at the conference was Kelantan Health director Datuk Dr Zaini Hussin.

Dr Izani said almost all the 120 beds at the low-risk centre at the Silver Jubilee Hall were filled.

He said Kelantan so far has recorded a total of 1,393 Covid-19 cases with 18 clusters.

"The state government hopes, with the implementation of the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO), the number of Covid-19 cases can be reduced," he said.

Following the ban on interstate travel, said Dr Izani, anyone who planned to enter Kelantan for special reasons needs to provide documents that they are Covid-free.

"They will be required to wear a pink wristband and also undergo a 10-day quarantine," he added.
