Stern action against interstate, inter-district travellers from tomorrow [NSTTV]

BUTTERWORTH: Police have warned that stern action will be taken against interstate and inter-district travellers without valid permits beginning tomorrow.

Seberang Prai Utara district police chief Assistant Commissioner Noorzainy Mohd Noor said they have four mobile police road blocks in the district, focusing on "rat holes".

"These mobile road blocks will be mounted depending on the time...the time when travellers, without valid permits, seize the opportunity to use the rat holes to avoid detection.

"In areas such as Tasek Gelugor and Ara Kuda, we already have them covered with the mobile road blocks," he said after a spot check on commuters onboard the KTM Komuter and ETS train at the Butterworth railway station here this afternoon.

Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob has given those in their hometowns until today to make their way home, failing which there may be stuck for the next two weeks.

He had recently announced that interstate and inter-district travel would not be allowed, be it in states under the Movement Control Order (MCO), including Penang, or under the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO) or the Recovery Movement Control Order (RMCO).

Noorzainy said police would not hesitate to take stern action beginning tomorrow.

Meanwhile, on today's spot check, Noorzainy said all commuters could produce valid permits for interstate and interdistrict travel.

"I even checked a student who was returning to school in Perlis from here. The student produced a letter from the Education Department.

"I find the level of compliance among train commuters very good," he added.
