Johor Maqis seizes RM530,000 worth of Mandarin oranges

JOHOR BARU: The Malaysian Quarantine and Inspection Services Department (Maqis) on Tuesday seized six containers of Mandarin oranges imported without necessary documents.

Johor Maqis director Nur Afifah A. Rahman said the consignment, imported from China, was seized at the Port of Tanjung Pelepas at 4pm.

"A check by Maqis revealed that the consignment did not have the FAMA grading, packaging and labelling certificate (Sijil Perakuan 3P). The oranges weigh about 149,600kg and are valued at RM531,525.50," she said.

Nur Afifah said a 30-year-old driver was released after his statement was taken.

"The importing of any agricultural product without the proper documents from Maqis is an offence under Section 11(1) of the Malaysian Quarantine and Inspection Services Act 2011 and punishable under Section 11(3) of the same Act," she said.
