GEORGE TOWN: Kolej Vokasional Butterworth was ordered to close last Saturday after 36 people in the college were tested positive for Covid-19.
State Health Committee chairman Dr Norlela Ariffin, however, said the situation was under control.
The college is one of two clusters involving educational institutions.
"As of now, 36 people were tested positive for Covid-19. Nevertheless, the situation is under control.
"The Health Ministry ordered the college to close since Saturday," she said during the engagement session involving members of the state executive council (exco) and state assemblymen at a hotel here this morning.
The two-day engagement session was held in lieu of the state legislative assembly.
It was to enable state assemblymen to raise any issues directly with the state exco.
According to Norlela, there is another cluster involving a school where 16 students were tested positive in Bukit Tambun on March 21.
"We have carried isolation and sanitisation at the school, and the situation is under control.
"The authorities were able to control the situation as it only affected one class so the school remained open and need not be shut down," she added, noting that there are about 1,000 students in the school.
However, the cases were only confined to one class so the whole school was not shut down.
On the National Covid-19 Immunisation Plan in Penang, Norlela said they had vaccinated about 97.5 per cent under phase one as at March 24.
