Bank Rakyat treats Balai Berita staff to 'buka puasa' goodies

KUALA LUMPUR: Staff of the New Straits Times, Berita Harian and Harian Metro in Balai Berita, Bangsar were treated to food packs for the breaking of fast today courtesy of Bank Rakyat.

The Bank Rakyat team, led by its head of marketing and communications Nizam Sani, distributed the food packs to the staff this evening.

Nizam said Bank Rakyat has been distributing 'buka puasa' food packs to the media during Ramadan since 2014.

This, he said, was a way of expressing its appreciation and gratitude to media personnel as well as to cultivate good, prosperous working relations.

"Media practitioners are some of the busiest people around. Their work also means they are usually unable to break fast with their families at home.

"As such, we decided to drop by Balai Berita today to distribute about 700 food packs to bring them some cheer and joy," he said.

Bank Rakyat, he said, would be visiting various media outlets nationwide during Ramadan to distribute the food packs.

Nizam said that during Ramadan, Bank Rakyat would also embark on its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) project to provide assistance for the lower-income group and hardcore poor, who have been severely affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.

He said the bank is in the midst of preparing and finalising relief packs containing food, necessities and essentials such as toiletries and personal care products for more than 1,000 families nationwide.

Meanwhile, Shukor Othman, 55, a senior clerk with Balai Berita's Art Crib + Galeri Prima who has been with the company for 33 years, expressed his appreciation and gratitude upon receiving the food packs.

"It's humbling to see the bank staff themselves coming over to our office here to distribute the food. And with such bad weather, we do not need to worry about going out or ordering food for breaking of fast." he said.
