13 new clusters, three linked to educational institutions

KUALA LUMPUR: The Health Ministry today reported 13 new Covid-19 clusters in 10 states, including three educational institution-linked clusters as of noon today.

Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said three education institution-linked clusters under the Education Ministry, were detected in Selangor (Jalan Shah Banting cluster), Kelantan (Mengkebang cluster) and Kedah (Dinamik cluster).

Of the three education institution-linked clusters, the Jalan Shah Banting cluster recorded the highest number of positive cases at 58.

"The cluster involves the Kuala Langat district, with cases from this cluster testing positive since April 16 following targeted screening at an institution located at Jalan Sultan Suleiman Shah, Banting.

"To date, 913 individuals were screened," he said in a statement.

The Mengkebang and Dinamik clusters recorded 21 and 15 positive cases respectively.

Workplace linked clusters were identified in Selangor (Jalan Semtec cluster), Johor (Jalan Industri Mekanikal and Jalan Skin clusters), Sabah (Kota Sawit cluster) and Kuala Lumpur (Jalan Salahuddin cluster).

Of the five workplace linked clusters, the Jalan Kota Sawit cluster recorded the highest number of positive cases at 14.

"The cluster involves the Kinabatangan district, and the index case tested positive on April 14, following screening at a workplace located in Kinabatangan town.

"To date, 194 individuals were screened," he said in a statement.

The Jalan Semtec cluster recorded 12 cases to date, followed by Jalan Skin and Jalan Salahuddin clusters with 10 cases each, and Jalan Mekanikal cluster with seven.

Dr Noor Hisham said four community-linked clusters were unearthed in Selangor (Jalan Raji cluster), Sarawak (Sungai Banus cluster), Melaka (Jalan Pokok Mangga cluster) and Perak (Taman Changkat cluster).

"Of the four clusters, the Jalan Raji cluster recorded the highest number of positive cases at 42.

"The cluster involves Petaling, Sabak Bernam and Klang district, and the index case from this cluster being tested positive on April 12, following symptomatic individual screening.

"To date, 110 individuals were screened," he said.

The Sungai Banus cluster recorded 41 positive cases, followed by Jalan Pokok Mangga cluster (19) and Taman Changkat cluster (10).

Meanwhile, Dr Noor Hisham said one religious activity-linked cluster, the Kampung Bangkahulu cluster, was detected in Negri Sembilan, involving Tampin and Seremban districts.

"The index case of this cluster tested positive on April 16, following symptomatic individual screening.

"To date, 29 individuals were screened with 11 positive."

The 13 new clusters raises the tally of clusters to 1,565.

Of the total, 352 are still active, while 1,213 clusters have ended, including four today.

"Today, 74 clusters recorded new cases. Among the clusters that reported the most number of new cases are the Kampung Domis cluster (162) and Jalan Hospital cluster (101).
