Sabah lawmakers call for full investigation into ex-IGP's disclosure

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah opposition lawmakers have called for a full investigation into revelations by the former Inspector-General of Police.

United Progressive Kinabalu Organisation (Upko) vice-president Datuk Ewon Benedick was referring to Tan Sri Abdul Hamid Bador's press conference about a politician who once took a jet from Kuala Lumpur to Sabah.

After the trip, someone announced they were leaving the political party.

Hamid had also said after the change of government, the appointed Home Minister had urged for power to determine who can be stationed here and there, right from the very beginning of the first Police Force Commission meeting.

"The disclosure made by Hamid Bador during his last days as the IGP regarding political corruption and ministerial interference in the shuffling of police force is very serious.

"Therefore, we together with the people, especially in the constituency that we represent, demand a full investigation into Abdul Hamid's disclosure and demand the truth from the government," he said in a joint statement.

Ewon, who is also Kadamaian assemblymen, made the statement with Sabah DAP Youth Chief Ginger Phoong who is also Luyang assemblyman. Both also lodged a police report here.

They added that the people have the right to get the best service from the police to ensure national security and fair law enforcement.

"We remain confident that Malaysia can be better governed, but not by way of leadership as revealed by Abdul Hamid.

"(We) hope for better governance, but not in the current leadership of the country. The hope lies in new alternative leadership, through a new generation."
