3,551 new Covid-19 cases today with 19 fatalities

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia recorded 3,551 new Covid-19 cases today, a slight decrease from the 3,744 registered on Wednesday.

A total of 19 deaths were reported, bringing the total fatalities to 1,610 to date.

Health director general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the new infections raised the cumulative number to 427,927, with 33,762 active cases nationwide.

Of the new cases, 3,535 were local infections (including 3,242 Malaysians), while 16 others were imported (including 10 Malaysians), he said.

Selangor, he said, reported the highest number of new cases at 1,137 (32 per cent), followed by Kuala Lumpur with 477 cases (13.4 per cent) and Sarawak (391 cases or 11 per cent).

"A total of 354 Covid-19 patients are being treated at intensive care units (ICU), with 199 requiring ventilator support," he said in a statement.

The latest fatalities involved 18 Malaysians and one foreigner. They were reported in Sarawak (five), three each in Johor and Selangor, two each in Kelantan and Kuala Lumpur, and one each in Kedah, Negeri Sembilan, Pahang and Terengganu.

A total of 2,709 new recoveries were reported, bringing total recoveries to 392,555 (91.7 per cent), he said.

He said the Health Ministry also identified 14 new Covid-19 clusters, with total clusters standing at 1,740.

Of the new clusters, four were identified in Selangor, two each in Johor, Kelantan and Perak, and one each in Negri Sembilan, Pahang, Kedah and Sabah.

He said eight clusters were linked to workplaces, two to community infections, two in education institutions and one each involving high-risk groups and places of worship.

The new clusters are the Jalan Batu Arang, Industri Platinum, Persiaran Meru Raya, Persiaran Greentown Tujuh, Jalan Temangan, Jalan Pertama Empat, Industri Lengkuk Teknologi, Jalan Tunku, Kampung Chat, Indera Mahkota Lima, Jalan Sungai Merab, Jalan Teknologi Kota Damansara, Jalan Korma and Dah Lubuk Emas clusters.
