Malaysian urged to adhere to SOP's during Hari Raya Aidilfitri

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysians have been urged to continue playing their roles as responsible citizens by adhering to the standard operating procedures (SOP) during the Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebrations.

Alliance for Safe Community chairman Tan Sri Lee Lam Thye said even though this would be the second year that Malaysians are not able to celebrate the auspicious festival with their family in a physical manner, but there were other ways to be with the loved ones during the celebrations.

"Balik kampung is our tradition during festive celebrations regardless of one's race, since the Covid-19 pandemic, we are forced to play our roles to contain the outbreak.

"Last year, we celebrated Hari Raya on small scale, but this year, it was further challenging as Aidilfitri will be celebrated in a state of emergency.

"It is important that every Malaysian play their respective role to break the chain of transmissions by minimalising their movements," he said in a statement today.

He said Malaysians could still communicate with their family and friends using technologies.

"I hope Malaysians can stay positive as there are many other ways to be with your loved ones during Hari Raya, stay connected via social media or video calls, it will more or less help to ease the worries and homesickness," he said.

Lee thanked frontliners who could not be with their families during Hari Raya as they continue combating and protecting Malaysians from the coronavirus.

Meanwhile, he reminded Malaysians to take care of their mental health during such a challenging time.

"We are in the second year of the Covid-19 pandemic, many are emotionally and mentally exhausted after losing their jobs and source of incomes.

"We need to accept the situation, perseverance is needed during this difficult time. We need to stay together in this time and that this pandemic will end taking into account that everyone is abiding by the SOP.

"Look after our mental health and wish that we can free our country from the Covid-19," he said.
