Low-risk quarantine centre at Sukpa to reopen

KUANTAN: The Covid-19 Quarantine and Low Risk Treatment Centre (PKRC) at the Pahang Sports Complex (Sukpa) in Indera Mahkota here will be reopened later this evening.

State Civil Defence Force (APM) director Colonel Che Adam A Rahman said the state Covid-19 task force had decided to reopen the indoor stadium as two existing quarantine centres in Pahang were reaching their capacity.

"Currently, the Housing and Local Government training institute in Bukit Tinggi (Bentong) has 119 patients and the Health Ministry training institute here has 228 patients. Both are close to reaching maximum capacity so the state government has decided to reopen Sukpa.

"The PKRC in Sukpa only caters for 250 male patients. The responsible agencies are in the midst of setting up the facilities at Sukpa and the patients will be those within Kuantan," he said.

Che Adam said Sukpa will offer more convenience for patients following the decision by the state government to provide separate quarantine centres for both male and female patients.

The Sukpa indoor stadium was closed on Dec 20 last year after 168 foreigners from the Genting cluster in Bentong and the Kuala cluster in Kuantan were discharged.
