PM extends condolences to family of veteran journalist

KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin has extended his condolences to the family of veteran journalist Datuk Wong Sai Wan who died of a heart attack earlier today.

Muhyiddin described Wong, who was 59, as a great mentor to many past and present journalists in the country.

"He was well known for his kindness and humility. Wong, whom I have known for many years, was the epitome of quality journalism and he will be greatly missed.

"My thoughts and prayers are with his family in this difficult time. May his soul rest in peace," said Muhyiddin in a post on his official Facebook page today.

Wong, who was Malay Mail editor-in-chief, died at the Subang Jaya Medical Centre in Selangor.

He leaves behind his wife, Loo Poh Ling, son Chee Mun and daughter Yik Pen.

Chee Mun said that his father had suffered heart failure and was rushed to the hospital at 5.30am.

The senior Wong was admitted to the emergency ward at 6am but efforts to revive him failed.
