Not more than 50 Muslims performing daily and Friday prayers allowed in Kelantan

KOTA BARU: The Kelantan Religious and Malay Customs Council (MAIK) has allowed a congregation of not more than 50 to perform daily and Friday prayers at all mosques in the state.

MAIK president Tengku Tan Sri Mohamad Rizam Tengku Abdul Aziz said the directive would be enforced tomorrow and remain for an indefinite period.

However, he said other religious activities were still not allowed to be held at all mosques statewide.

"Muslims must also ensure 2m-physical distancing between individuals within the congregation. They must also comply to Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) strictly," he said in a statement.

Tengku Rizam, who is also Tengku Temenggong Kelantan, said MAIK hoped for Muslims to extend their fullest cooperation by following the SOP.

"By doing so, it will help breaking the chain of the coronavirus transmission," he said.

Tengku Rizam also said stern action could be taken against those flouting the SOP.
