Jakim, Jawi handle 347 Covid-19 bodies

KUALA LUMPUR: The Islamic Development Department (Jakim) and Federal Territories Islamic Religious Department (Jawi) have handled the remains of 347 Covid-19 patients as of 8am today.

Jawi director Datuk Mohd Ajib Ismail said the deceased involved 215 male and 132 female patients.

"The remains of those aged between 61 and 80 were the highest handled so far with 169, followed by the age group between 41 and 60 with 100.

"Others were those aged between 21 and 40 (40); 81 and 100 year-old (33), and 0 and 20 year-old (five)."

He said the handling of the remains was conducted by 70 personnel.

Ajib said Kuala Lumpur Hospital recorded the highest number of bodies handled by Jakim and Jawi with 176, followed by Ampang Hospital (44), Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia Medical Centre (35), Universiti Malaya Medical Centre (32), and Putrajaya Hospital (26).

Ajib said Jakim and Jawi were expected to handle another 12 bodies today, making it 359.
