KUALA LUMPUR: Continuous heavy downpour in the capital has dampened the opportunity for a clear sighting of the rare "Super Flower Blood Moon".
A spokesperson from National Planetarium here said that they could not get a clear image of the phenomenon from its observatory today.
The National Planetarium streamed the sighting on its Facebook page and YouTube channel.
On its Facebook page, over 10,000 people streamed the feed as of 8pm with its chief senior assistant director, Mohd Zamri Shah Mastor explaining the rare phenomenon of the moon.
He said the phenomenon could have been witnessed between 7.11pm to 7.26pm.
People were leaving comments that they were unable to watch it from their respective states due to heavy downpour and cloudy weather today.
This was the first time such sighting was not open for the public since the pandemic hit last year.
The last public sighting was held was in 2018 with many coming to watch the rare "super blue blood moon" phenomenon from the National Planetarium.
During the lunar eclipse, the moon will be at the closest to the earth about just 357,460km away.
Muslims were encouraged to perform solat sunat Khusuf after performing Maghrib prayers.
The full moon is expected to end by 8.52pm.
