30pct in KL and 40 pct in Labuan yet to register for vaccine

KUALA LUMPUR: The Federal Territories Ministry will accelerate the mainstream vaccination under the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme (NIP).

Its Minister Tan Sri Annuar Musa said this is to ensure the government could achieve its target of creating herd immunity in the Federal Territory by August this year.

Annuar said the vaccination rate in the city, which currently stood between 7,000 and 9,000 people per day, needed to be increased by at least four fold in order to achieve such a target.

"Hence, we need to ensure the entire population at all Federal Territories including Kuala Lumpur and Labuan must register under the NIP and get inoculated.

"Based on the latest figure, 100 per cent of the population in Putrajaya has registered under the NIP.

"There are still 30 per cent of the population in Kuala Lumpur and 40 per cent of the population in Labuan who have yet to register under the national vaccination programme," he told reporters.

Earlier, Annuar visited the Seri Sabah Public Housing Project (PA) where the ministry's Community Covid-19 Targeted Screening Programme using the RTK Antigen method was carried out.

Kuala Lumpur mayor Datuk Seri Mahadi Che Ngah was also present.
