Over 1,000 detained for flouting MCO 3.0 SOP

KUALA LUMPUR: Stricter enforcement saw more than 1,000 people arrested for breaching the standard operating procedures of the breaching Movement Control Order 3.0 (MCO 3.0) yesterday.

Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, in a statement today, said out of 1,214 detained, 1,107 were issued with compounds while 107 were remanded.

Failure to observe physical distancing topped the list of offences with 267 cases.

Other offences included failure to wear face masks (224), failure to record details at premises (158), ferrying passengers above the permitted numbers (103), activities at entertainment outlets (24) and others (304).

Police also conducted 86,714 checks nationwide including at restaurants, supermarkets, banks, and other premises.

Under Op Benteng, 11 undocumented immigrants were detained, with two boats and three land vehicles seized.

Ismail Sabri said a total of 975 roadblocks were currently in place throughout the country to curb movement of people.

Meanwhile, 95 sanitisation operations were carried out throughout the country yesterday.

"A total of 703 individuals returned from abroad yesterday and have been placed at quarantine centres."

In total, 220,554 have returned to the country since July 24 last year with 9,163 quarantined, 208,960 allowed to go home and 2,431 taken to hospitals.
