Violations remain high, public reminded to adhere to SOP

KUALA LUMPUR: Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob has again reminded all to adhere to the Movement Control Order's (MCO) standard operating procedures (SOP) to curb the spread of Covid-19.

He said following the implementation of total lockdown on June 1, Covid-19 cases in Malaysia are now on a downward trend.

"However, the total number of arrests for SOP violations is still high with more than 800 cases recorded daily.

"In this regard, SOP compliance operations will be further enhanced with holistic enforcement involving all levels," he said in a statement today.

Ismail Sabri said the Compliance Operation Task Force yesterday checked 94,905 premises nationwide.

"A total of 780 people were arrested for violating the SOP, and of the total, 748 were issued compounds, while 32 were remanded.

"Offences recorded were 152 cases for not practicing physical distancing, not wearing facemasks (137), not registering before entering premises (135), disobeying movement control restrictions (70), ferrying beyond the permitted number of passengers in vehicles (54), and others (232)."

He said five undocumented foreigners were arrested with one land vehicle seized in Op Benteng yesterday, adding that 12 illegal immigrants were deported.

A total of 984 roadblocks were mounted under the operations.

Yesterday, 110 sanitation operations were carried out nationwide covering 52 red zones, two orange zones and six yellow zones.

He said 544 individuals arrived in Malaysia have been ordered to undergo mandatory quarantine at designated centres.

The Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry yesterday conducted 1,378 inspections and 12 premises were compounded for failing to comply with the SOP.
