Covid-19 vaccination offered for 40,000 construction workers

KUALA LUMPUR: The Works Ministry through the Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) has offered Covid-19 vaccines to 40,000 construction workers.

Senior Works Minister, Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, said this programme would expedite the vaccination rate among economic frontliners.

"The Ministry submitted the proposal for the construction sector's vaccination programme to the Covid-19 Immunisation Task Force (CITF) on June 14, and was given the green light.

"Under the programme, private sectors will need to prepare their own teams, certified medical personnel and vaccination centres (PPV) while the supply and delivery of the vaccines will be provided free by the government.

"CIDB will coordinate and facilitate the implementation of this programme," he said in a statement today.

Fadillah said the programme was part of CIDB's contribution to the construction sector, particularly in these trying times.

"Every worker will be charged RM140 for two doses of vaccines. To ease the burden on industry players, CIDB will subsidise RM50 for every worker and will also offer their premises as PPVs for free.

"After the subsidy, employers will only have to pay RM90 for one worker under the vaccination programme," he said.

He informed that participation was voluntary and industry players could choose to deal directly with CITF to implement the programme.

He said the construction sector vaccination programme would be rolled out in Kuala Lumpur on June 30 and Selangor on July 14.

"Employers who want to register their employees in the vaccination programme can do so starting June 21 via http://vaccine.cidblink.com or call 03-40428880 for enquiries."
