KUALA LUMPUR: Nine longhouses in Sungai Rassau, Batang Igan, Matu, Sarawak, will be placed under the Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO) from June 19 to July 2.
Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said the two-week EMCO was being implemented to facilitate early case detection and contain the spread of Covid-19 in the community.
He said the affected areas were Rumah Panjang Salim anak Unang; Rumah Panjang Judy anak Kudi; Rumah Panjang Mathew anak Merang; Rumah Panjang Danggang anak Ujang;
Rumah Panjang Lait anak Kilau; Rumah Panjang Lait anak Ijang; Rumah Panjang Putut anak Jugah; Rumah Panjang Sadin anak Jeli and Rumah Panjang Mador anak Rendah.
The Health Ministry, he said, had confirmed that a Covid-19 outbreak had occurred in these areas with a high infectivity rate. He said 84 residents have so far been screened with 48 testing positive.
The positivity rate, he said, stood at 57.14 per cent.
"After a risk assessment with various agencies in the technical committee and acting upon the ministry's recommendation, the government has agreed to the implementation of the EMCO in these nine longhouses from June 19 to July 2," he said in a statement today.
Ismail Sabri said the EMCO would also be enforced at Wah Cens Plastic Industries & Rainbow Metal Sdn Bhd and its foreign worker's hostels in Segamat, Johor.
He said over the past week, 52 positive cases were recorded after 488 people were screened.
The positivity rate stood at 10.7 per cent.
"The EMCO is to prevent movement of workers at the factory area and prevent the virus from spreading to other localities," he said.
He said the same set of EMCO standard operating procedures will be enforced in these areas.
Meanwhile, he also announced the extension of the EMCO in Semarak, Tawau and Kampung Pengaraban, Kudat, which was scheduled to end tomorrow.
He said the EMCO had to be extended for two weeks from June 19 to July 2 in these areas as new Covid-19 cases were still being reported.
Meanwhile, the EMCO in Kampung Tanjung Aru Baru and Rumah Murah Kepayan, Kota Kinabalu; Besut district, Terengganu; Taman Milenium and Kampung Jawa Kongsi 10, Tawau; Rumah Panjang Sigah anak Lak, Sungai Baoh Burak, Dalat, Mukah, Sarawak, will be lifted today as scheduled.
