#NSTcares Single mum with sick daughter in need of help

IPOH: A single mother has been plucking edible leaves along the roadside to feed her sick daughter for the last two weeks as she has no means to get any essential items.

R. Suganthi, 53, has been living with her friend's grandmother at the National Garden Apartment here, with her daughter, S. Kyran, 33, since early this year.

Suganthi who suffers from a slip disc was unable to continue her job as a security guard and decided to quit after being involved in an accident in 2014.

"My daughter was also involved in an accident in 2011. She previously worked as a nurse, but due to the accident, she suffered a broken hip and she too, can't stand and sit for too long.

"She usually lies in bed the whole day and also suffers from memory loss following the accident. We also wake up late every day to avoid feeling hungry in the morning.

"We usually wake up at 2pm and share biscuits. If we feel hungry at night, we only drink coffee," she said when met today.

Suganthi who previously rented a house in Gunung Rapat here had moved out after not being able to pay rent and electricity bills.

"My friend asked me to stay with her grandmother who is renting an apartment here and she's living alone. My friend always helps me get essential items.

"I am grateful as my daughter and I finally have a roof over our heads, but how long should I stay here.

"I can't afford to pay half the rental here, as well as the utility bills.

"I hope I can do something for my daughter, I need to find a job that is suitable for my condition and a house too," she said adding that sometimes, she does crochet stitching to earn some money.
