741 people compounded for SOP breaches

KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 761 people were taken to task yesterday by the authorities for a host of offences related to failure to adhere to the standard operating procedures of the Movement Control Order (MCO).

Senior Minister (Security) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said from the total, 741 people were issued with compounds, 19 remanded while one was released on bail.

The SOP violations, he said, included cross border travel without permission/ dining in at premises (197), failure to wear face masks (152), failure to register their particulars when entering premises (127), no physical distancing (100), ferrying more than the permitted amount of passengers (62), failure to abide by the movement control order (61), premises failing to comply with the SOP (15) and others (47).

Ismail Sabri said the SOP compliance taskforce had inspected 92,994 premises including supermarkets, restaurants, factories, banks, government offices and hawkers yesterday.

On Op Benteng, he said 14 undocumented migrants were arrested and six land vehicles were seized.

"The authorities also detected the presence of 165 boats in national waters during eight sighting activities.

Ismail Sabri said 897 Op Penawar roadblocks were mounted nationwide by the police, the Malaysian Border Security Agency (Aksem) and the armed forces.

There were 45 roadblocks mounted under Op Benteng and nine roadblocks under Op Benteng Aksem yesterday.

Ismail Sabri also said 349 individuals arrived in Malaysia on Wednesday, and all were instructed to undergo mandatory quarantine.

Since July 24 last year, a total of 232,385 individuals had returned to the country and were quarantined at 78 hotels and nine training institutes.

On sanitisation of public spaces, Ismail Sabri said 135 operations were conducted nationwide yesterday involving 53 red zones, three orange and seven yellow zones.

Ismail Sabri said 17 premises were issued with compounds by the Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs for violating the SOP during 1,582 special inspections

"Of that number, 1,565 premises complied with SOPs while 17 others were compounded.

"Yesterday, the ministry carried out 764 inspections over 11 types of goods' supplies comprising retailers (569), wholesalers (163) and manufacturers (32) and found the country's food supply is enough and stable," he said.
