IPOH: The Ipoh City Council (MBI) will get a flat unit owned by the council for single mother, R. Suganthi and her daughter to live in.

Yesterday, the New Straits Times reported that Suganthi has been living with her friend's grandmother at an apartment here, with her daughter, S. Lalithambigai @ Kyran, 33 since early this year.

The 53-year-old mother has also been plucking edible leaves along the roadside to feed her sick daughter, whom she fondly calls Kyran, who was involved in an accident in 2011.

Mayor Datuk Rumaizi Bahari said the council would look for a suitable flat for the two.

"The council will find a place for the family to stay. We are also offering her a job as a security guard at the Econsave supermarket in Jelapang here.

"If she agrees with the offer, she can start work as soon as possible," he said after visiting the family at an apartment here today.

During the visit, MBI and Econsave Cash & Carry Sdn Bhd (Econsave) had also donated food items and cash to the family.

Meanwhile, Suganthi said she could not believe that help and donations were pouring in for her and her daughter after news about their plight was reported yesterday.

"Thank you for those who have helped my family. I feel so happy. We can now eat proper food.

"I am speechless, I didn't expect there were so many people out there willing to help me. I would like to say thank you to everyone," she said.

On the job offer, Suganthi said she would take up the job and start working by end of this year due to her condition.

"I had undergone surgery in March this year and the doctor told me I need to take a break from work for a year. I can't sit and stand up for so long.

"But I am happy that I finally got a job. I can't wait to start because as a single mother, I need to be a mother and a father to my daughter. I can't simply sit like this and do nothing," she added.

Suganthi who suffers from a slip disc was unable to continue her job as a security guard and decided to quit after being involved in an accident in 2014.

Suganthi who previously rented a house in Gunung Rapat here had moved out after not being able to pay rent and electricity bills
