Internet access issues in Tenom being rectified

KOTA KINABALU: The problem of Internet access in Tenom, located about 170km south of here, which has caused difficulties for students and teachers to pursue Home-based Teaching and Learning (PdPR), is being resolved expeditiously, according to the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission.

In a statement here yesterday, MCMC said a communication tower is under construction in Kampung Bamban and is expected to be completed in April 2022.

The statement said another new communication tower would be built near Kampung Batu 14 under the National Digital Network (JENDELA) initiative and construction would begin in early 2022.

"The construction of the two communication towers is expected to improve Internet access coverage in the area as well as enable residents to carry out daily activities smoothly.

"Various measures have been taken to address this problem and MCMC has identified the problems faced by residents in the area," the statement said.

The statement was issued following an exclusive Bernama report last Thursday (June 24) about several teachers at Sekolah Menengah Jenis Kebangsaan Chung Hwa,, Tenom having to drive some 40 km to send PdPR materials to students due to poor Internet access.-- BERNAMA
