PENAMPANG: Yohan Charles Jayasuria is hopeful to be inoculated with the Covid-19 vaccine, but the "closest" that he could get was by filming himself in Iron Man costume for a mock vaccination.
The 40-year-old cosplayer said despite not getting the real vaccine after a two-month wait, he said it was still meaningful to spread the awareness to encourage people to register for the vaccination.
"The idea came from Persatuan Penggerak Penampang Sabah (PPPS) and the Rotary Club who have been delivering lunch boxes since last month to frontliners at the vaccination centre at Penampang Cultural Hall here.
"With people are still afraid of getting the vaccines due to inaccurate information and fear of needles, the PPS suggested to film me being inoculated," said Yohan, who has been using cosplay to do charity work since 2011.
Last year, donning the three-kilogramme costume, Yohan had hiked through Mount Kinabalu to raise funds for mountain guides and porters whose incomes were affected by Movement Control Order.
Two weeks ago, he also donated blood in his costume to encourage more people to help with the blood shortage at hospitals.
Yohan added that by right he should have done the filming with the said NGOs earlier, but due to work commitment he could only do it yesterday.
He also said there were also cosplayers in Tawau and Sarawak filming themselves getting the real jabs for awareness purposes.
"When it is my time to get the vaccination, I will also put on my costume for it. I just have to be patient as I have been informed there has been limited vaccine supply and priority was given to those in the high risk groups."
Yesterday, Sabah administered 10,790 Covid-19 vaccine doses.
The state had said that starting today, it would administer 30,000 doses of Covid-19 vaccine per day.
