White flag is just signal for help, says Pas man

PASIR MAS: Community and political leaders should avoid politicising the #benderaputih or white flag initiative, a Pas Youth leader said today.

Instead, Pas deputy youth chief Ahmad Fadhli Shaari said everyone should regard the raising of the white flag as one of the ways for the people to send out a call for help.

He said the move should be seen as a signal that immediate action must be taken by the relevant parties.

"As for the campaign, known as #benderaputih, I believe in this kind of situation, we should not think too much into what other people think about the campaign. Some will agree while others will disagree with it.

"But, what is more important here is that those who fly the white flag need our help.

"The colour of the flag is not important. Even the medium used to send the signal does not matter. We should assist them.

"It is our responsibility to provide the necessary help," said Fadhli, who is Pasir Mas member of parliament, after a food basket programme here today.

However, he warned people against flying the white flag for political purposes.

"This issue should not be politicised or manipulated by certain quarters," he said.

Malaysians recently flooded social media with the #benderaputih movement and called on those in need of food or essentials to raise a white flag outside their homes.

This was to indicate that the household needed assistance and allow neighbours to render necessary aid to them.
