Over 60 factories, business premises, construction sites told to close

KUALA LUMPUR: Authorities have issued closure order to more than 60 premises involving factories, business premises, construction sites and wokers' hostels for flouting the Covid-19 standard operating procedures (SOP).

Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said the Compliance Operation Task Force had conducted 80,827 checks nationwide on Tuesday.

From the inspections, 23 factories, 43 business premises, two construction sites and 286 workers' hostels were found to have flouted the SOP.

"These premises have been ordered to close," he said in a statement today.

On flouting the SOP, Ismail Sabri said 471 people were arrested, with 446 of them having to pay compounds for numerous offences, 16 remanded and nine released on bail.

The deputy prime minister also said 11 undocumented immigrants were detained on Tuesday and three land vehicles were seized.

A total of 940 roadblocks have been mounted nationwide.

Following checks by Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry (KPDNHEP) on SOP compliance at 2,065 premises, 10 were slapped with compounds.

"We have screened 143 foreign workers yesterday (Tuesday) and three of them tested positive for Covid-19. To date, 700,800 foreign workers have been screened with 10,410 positive cases," he added.
