National Recovery Plan Council to replace special committee

KUALA LUMPUR: A National Recovery Plan (NRP) Council will be formed to replace the existing NRP special committee.

This was decided during the second NRP special committee meeting chaired by Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin today.

Finance Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz said the council, to be chaired by the prime minister, would look into efforts to execute the NRP smoothly and further strengthen Covid-19 pandemic containment strategies.

"Based on the whole-of-nation approach, the council will appoint representatives from the private sector, industrial experts and non-governmental organisations to share their experiences and advices on various NRP aspects to allow Malaysia to exit the pandemic in a systematic and safe manner," he said in a statement.

Tengku Zafrul also said it was decided during the meeting to table the NRP in Parliament on July 26.

In today's meeting, he said, the committee had also agreed on several matters. They are:

* To improve the SOP based on feedback, including subject matter experts, in line with efforts to raise the SOP clarity and level of compliance;

* To ease several restrictions on those who have completed their two doses of the vaccines; and,

* To consider giving leeway to companies that had given complete vaccination to their workers to operate fully.

Tengku Zafrul added that the details of what had been agreed upon would be finalised soon.

The council will also consider and propose improved measures to ensure a fast transition from one phase to another, he said, perhaps by basing on main threshold values which had been set.

"As a way forward, the government will strengthen its strategies in controlling the Covid-19 pandemic holistically by focusing on factors such as movement rate, infection rate and period, population with potential risks and bolster the public healthcare system."
