GEORGE TOWN: Five Civil Defence Force personnel took 15 minutes to "overpower" a king cobra before finally catching the reptile in a chicken coop in Sungai Emas, Batu Ferringhi here today.
The Civil Defence Force's Tanjung Bungah unit officer Mohd Rozani Zauniddin said they received a call from a member of the public about 12.50pm about the discovery of a snake in a chicken coop on a durian farm.
He said the team's personnel had to work hard to catch the 8kg snake, which measured more than 4m long, due to its aggressiveness while trying to escape into the nearby bushes.
"It was fierce. It even tried to attack one of the personnel who had tried to bring it under control. We had to wait about 15 minutes to ensure the reptile was calm before eventually catching it," he said.
Rozani said the snake will be taken to their office in Tanjung Bungah before being handed over to the state Wildlife Department.
