CAAM probing Bell 505 helicopter in 'nasi ganja' air delivery

IPOH: The Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM) has launched an investigation over a Bell 505 helicopter, operated by Systematic Aviation Services which landed at Padang Ipoh here to pick up 36 packs of 'nasi ganja'.

CAAM in a statement today confirmed that the helicopter landed at Padang Ipoh here at 10am yesterday (Friday).

The statement said initial investigation revealed that the helicopter had departed from Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport, Subang, Selangor for Ipoh at 9.08am and had returned to the airport at 11.02am, as per the filed flight plan.

"CAAM has initiated an immediate investigation to determine whether the helicopter has breached any regulations as stated in the Malaysian Civil Aviation Regulation 2016 (MCAR 2016) and the Civil Aviation Directives (CADs).

"CAAM will also verify to ensure that the operator and the operating crew had operated within the scope of approvals

"CAAM wishes to reiterate that operators shall comply with the general rules as per CAD 2 (Rules of the Air), Chapter 3.1. Protection of Persons and Property and other relevant chapters," the statement read.

The statement said CAAM would continue to ensure all operating aircrafts are in accordance with established safety standards and regulations for the safety of the industry and the public.

It was reported yesterday (Friday) that a helicopter landed at Padang Ipoh here just to pick up 36 packs of Nasi Ganja booked by a customer from Kuala Lumpur.

Perak police chief Datuk Mior Faridalathrash Wahid had said checks with the Ipoh Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM), revealed the helicopter was only allowed to land at the Sultan Azlan Shah Airport (LTSAS) in Ipoh.

Following this, he said police were probing whether the incident had broken any standard operating procedures (SOP) of the Movement Control Order (MCO).

He added that police would also be investigating the company which owns the helicopter.
