Record 42 Covid-19 clusters today, more than half linked to workplaces

KUALA LUMPUR: A record 42 new Covid-19 clusters were identified within the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of active clusters in the country to 1,028.

This broke the July 16 record of 37 new clusters.

Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said there were a record number of new clusters, 25 linked to workplaces while another 12 stemmed from the community.

The remaining clusters involve two high risk communities, two detention centres and an education establishment.

Johor, Selangor and Kelantan registered the highest number of clusters by recording six clusters each, Pahang and Sabah registered four clusters each while Kedah and Perak recorded three each.

Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Negri Sembilan and Terengganu recorded two clusters per state while Sarawak and Putrajaya recorded a cluster each. There were no new clusters recorded in Labuan, Perlis and Melaka.

A total of 2,499 clusters have ended so far.
