Six Orang Asli settlements in Kelantan to be placed under EMCO tomorrow [NSTTV]

KOTA BARU: The first Covid-19 case involving the Orang Asli community in Kelantan was detected early this week, from a man who worked in Cameron Highlands.

State health director Datuk Dr Zaini Hussin said the Orang Asli man who was the index case for the infections which then spread to a few Orang Asli settlements in Gua Musang.

So far, he said 19 positive cases were detected in six settlements in the district.

Following the spike in the cases, Dr Zaini added the government has decided to implement the Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO) covering the six villages.

"Due to the high positive rate at these villages which has affected 19 people as of Tuesday, the Gua Musang health office as well as the District Officer have decided to impose the EMCO beginning tomorow," he said.

Dr Zaini told this to reporters after visiting a vaccination centre at the Darulnaim Complex here today.

He said the six affected districts were Kampung Cekau, Kampung Jedip WCT, Kampung Seng Sang, Kampung Lojing, Kampung Sendrop and Kampung Penangau.

"The villages will be placed under EMCO until Aug 12 and screening tests have been carried out since the first case was detected.

"We hope the screening tests against all the 993 Orang Asli in this six villages will be completed soon," he said.

He also added the state health department is expected to receive some 8,000 single vaccination doses for the Orang Asli community.
