Saudi Arabia Covid-19 medical aid arrives in Malaysia

KUALA LUMPUR: Saudi Arabia deployed three flights transporting medical equipment to Malaysia.

The aid was to help Malaysia boost its Covid-19 pandemic response.

Senior Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein, in a Facebook post, said two of the flights touched down yesterday while another is slated to arrive today.

Later this evening, Hishammuddin will be attending a ceremony to receive Saudi Arabia's Covid-19 aid to Malaysia at the Institute Of Strategic and International Studies (ISIS).

On July 25, Saudi Arabia's King Salman Abdulaziz Al-Saud directed the King Salman Centre for Relief and Humanitarian Action (KSrelief) to immediately channel donations of medical equipment and other assistance required for Malaysia to combat the Covid-19 pandemic.

Hishamuddin said, the royal order came in response to a request he made during his phone call with Crown Prince Muhammad Bin Salman.

Currently, Saudi Arabia is Malaysia's second largest trading partner in the Middle East with total bilateral trade valued at USD4.83 billion (RM20.27 billion) in 2020.
