Patients were not sitting on the floor lined with cardboard, says HTAR

KUALA LUMPUR: The Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital (HTAR) in Klang has denied claims that Covid-19 patients were forced to sit on the floor lined with cardboards at its Emergency and Trauma Department (ETD).

HTAR director Dr Zulkarnain Mohd Rawi said Covid-19 patients which have been moved from the ETD to a temporary ward at the Ambulatory Care Services Complex (ACC) are in a comfortable environment as it is equipped with air conditioning.

"Should there be insufficient beds, patients will be placed on a chair or wheelchair temporarily.

"Therefore, allegations that patients were made to sit on the floor lined with cardboards is untrue," said Dr Zulkarnain in a statement uploaded on the Health Ministry's official Twitter account today.

Dr Zulkarnain added that the ETD was currently waiting for the completion of a field hospital which is expected to be operational within a few days.

The field hospital, he said, was being constructed to house a relatively large number of Covid-19 patients in HTAR.
