Perak Umno backs Supreme Council's decision

IPOH: Perak Umno is supporting its Supreme Council decision to withdraw their support for Perikatan Nasional (PN) and Prime Minister, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

Its chairman, Datuk Saarani Mohamad said the statement announced by party president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi was in line with the decision reached at the last Umno General Assembly (PAU).

"With the withdrawal of the support of some Umno members of parliament, we are confident that the PN as well as Muhyiddin have lost their majority in the Dewan Rakyat.

"As such, Perak Umno will continue to carry out its responsibilities as the state government by focusing on efforts to address the Covid-19 pandemic and ensure that the fate of the people continues to be protected," he said in a statement today.

Perak state assembly comprises 25 Umno assemblymen, DAP (15), Amanah (5), Bersatu (6) Pas (3) PKR (3) and Independent (2).

On Tuesday, Ahmad Zahid announced that the party has withdrawn its support for PN, claiming the government has now lost its majority in the Dewan Rakyat.

In a virtual press conference, Zahid said he recently had an audience with the Yang di-Pertuan Agong and presented to the king several statutory declarations (SD) by Umno members of parliament who expressed their withdrawal of support for Muhyiddin.
