KPDNHEP reviewing Covid-19 self-test kit's price

KUALA LUMPUR: The Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry (KPDNHEP) will be looking into the price of the Covid-19 self-test kit sold in the market.

In a statement today, Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi said he had ordered the ministry to collaborate with the Health Ministry to review the price of the test kits in the interest of consumers.

He said that the ministry is currently conducting engagement sessions on the cost and price studies as well as supply of Covid-19 self-testing equipment to licensed companies covering every player in the distribution chain up to the retail level such as pharmacies and clinics.

"This is so that the price of the test kits are sold at suitable rates while not burdening consumers.

"The Covid-19 self-test kit is an important essential item for consumers to manage and maintain health safety independently in the current situation of the country facing epidemic challenges," he said in a statement today.

So far the Health Ministry said 11 Covid-19 self-test kits have received conditional approval from the Medical Device Authority (MDA).

Seven of them used saliva samples, while the rest used nasal samples.
