Pregnant nurse believed to have died from Covid-19 infection

KUALA KRAI: A 26-week pregnant nurse died at Sultan Ismail Petra hospital here yesterday believed to be from Covid-19 infection.

According to sources, the 34-year-old victim died at about 3am.

"She was believed to have contracted the coronavirus from a patient recently," said sources.

The sources said the woman who was attached to Gua Musang hospital, was buried at a cemetery in her village, near here yesterday.

It is learnt that the hospital's medical personnel managed to save her premature baby by conducting an emergency C-section operation.

The baby is now under the watchful care of the hospital.

State health director Datuk Dr Zaini Hussin confirmed the nurse's death.

"But we are still waiting for the autopsy report to determine the real cause of her death," he said.

The victim was believed to be among two persons who died due to the coronavirus in Kelantan yesterday.

A total of 306 people died due to the pandemic in Kelantan as of yesterday and the majority of them were senior citizens.
