KUALA LUMPUR: Helming the Education Ministry during the Covid-19 pandemic was challenging and required meticulous planning, Datuk Dr Radzi Jidin admitted today.

He thanked Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin for giving him the opportunity to serve as the Education Minister and said he had dedicated the last 18 months to improve the country's education landscape.

"Since I first stepped into the ministry, I always told the others that I'm also a staff like them.

"What distinguishes me from them is only my designation as a minister.

"I did not become a minister to gain popularity but to do the right thing based on data and analysis.

"Managing the ministry during the Covid-19 pandemic was not easy. No one out there has experienced this situation before.

"Every decision was made after taking into account opinions from various parties," he posted on Facebook today.

Radzi conveyed his appreciation to the Education Ministry's secretary-general Datuk Yusran Shah Mohd Yusof and the ministry's director-general Datin Seri Nor Zamani Abdol Hamid for being his pillars of support.

He also thanked the ministry's workforce, state education departments and district education offices for ensuring the smooth implementation of education policies during these trying times.

During his tenure in the ministry, Radzi said many pending issues were resolved and several plans to improve the country's education system have been and were being implemented.

"If the current plans and efforts can be continued, the quality of our education system can definitely soar higher," he added.
