Fewer Covid-19 Category four patients being admitted to MAEPS

KUALA LUMPUR: The number of Category four patients admitted to the Malaysia Agro Exposition Park (MAEPS) Covid-19 Quarantine and Low-Risk Treatment Centre has reduced significantly compared to three-weeks ago.

Its director, Dr Shahabuddin Ibrahim, said previously, MAEPS received an average of 450 to 500 Covid-19 Category four patients daily.

"Today, we only received 109 Category four patients compared to the highest number, which was 525 cases, on Aug 8.

"This is a very significant reduction here (MAEPS) compared to the average 450 to 500 Category four we received three weeks ago," he told BH today.

In the past week, it was reported that the use of bed for severe Covid-19 patients had reduced in several Covid-19 hospitals in the Klang Valley compared early July, when the beds were almost fully occupied.

BH had previously reported that Covid-19 patients admitted to Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hopsital (HTAR) in Klang and Kuala Lumpur Hospital (HKL) had been decreasing following implementation of the Covid-19 National Immunisation Programme.

Dr Shahabuddin said the previously purchased oxygen concentrators and tanks that were then used for severe patients would now be sent hospitals in other states that were experiencing a rise in cases.

"The tanks and oxygen concentrators that were used in MAEPS and Klang Valley hospitals will now be sent to hospitals in other states.

"As of noon, 470 concentrators and tanks have been distributed to hospitals in Pahang, Johor, Penang, Perlis, Kelantan, Kedah and Terengganu."
