RMAF transports Comirnaty vaccine from Sarawak to Sabah

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah today received 99,400 doses of Covid-19 vaccines from Sarawak.

The Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) transported the consignment via a 'logistic communication' flight in an effort to improve the vaccination rate in Sabah.

The Pfizer-BioNTech Covid-19 vaccine, now branded as Comirnaty, were loaned from Sarawak and taken to Tawau, Sabah.

"The vaccine transfer is part of the Sabah state government's bid to reach the immunisation target of 80 per cent of Sabahans by October this year," the RMAF said in a statement.

The C130 transport aircraft from the Labuan Air Base was flown by Captain Mohamad Zulkarnain Johari and Captain Owi Wei Lunn.

It arrived at the Kuching Air Base at 11.30am and took off an hour later to get other vaccines at the Sibu and Bintulu airports before reaching the Tawau airport at 4.30pm.

These vaccines were handed over to the Sabah Health Department.

The RMAF said since March last year, it had been providing air logistics support to help the country in dealing with the Covid-19 pandemic.

"The RMAF is always ready and committed in performing its primary and secondary roles, including social responsibility to the community to ensure the people and country's well-being would be preserved."

As of yesterday, 56.3 per cent of the adult population in Sabah have received at least one dose and 37.1 per cent have received their full dosage.
