Eight MBSP employees lost to Covid-19, 33 undergoing treatment

BUKIT MERTAJAM: Eight Seberang Prai City Council (MBSP) employees have died of Covid-19 since the pandemic first struck in March last year.

Of the eight, aged between 28 and 57, one had completed the vaccination, four had received their first dose while the remaining three had yet to be vaccinated.

Mayor Datuk Rozali Mohamud said 33 other employees are still being treated for the virus infection.

"We have lost eight of our colleagues who had been working tirelessly to serve the people.

"There are 33 others who are fighting to free themselves from the virus. We hope that they will be given the strength to fight the infection," he said in his speech at the Seberang Prai City celebration here today.

The event was officiated by state Local Government Committee chairman Jagdeep Singh Deo.

Rozali said Covid-19 vaccination was a priority for all city council employees to prevent them from being infected.

"As of today, some 3,930 or 98.6 per cent of MBSP employees have been vaccinated. All of you must be healthy to continue to serve as you are the frontline of Seberang Prai now," he added.

On another matter, Rozali said MBSP would introduce the "Sejahtera Peniaga" programme, an integrated application system which combines several applications at one go.

"Through this system, applicants get to not only apply for business licenses but also temporary building permits as well as waste management.

"This is the first time we are introducing such a system, which will go on until the year end. This is expected to benefit some 1,000 traders, especially in the rural areas," he added.
