Jakim completes investigation into PMYT

KOTA BARU: The Malaysian Department of Islamic Development (Jakim) has completed its investigation into the deviant "Perjalanan Mimpi Yang Terakhir" (PMYT) movement.

Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Ahmad Marzuk Shaary said Jakim was now waiting for prosecution.

The penalty to be imposed against the movement's leader and her followers would depend on the provisions of the law in the state, or states involved.

Ahmad Marzuk said in a Muzakarah (discussion) Committee of the National Council for Islamic Religious Affairs (MKI) meeting held last week, it was agreed that the movement be gazetted as deviant.

"Jakim has already completed its investigation into the case and the case has been referred to the respective states for further action.

"It is up to the religious authority of the respective states on the next move against the leader and her followers of which we estimate to be more than 1,000," he said in Pengkalan Chepa today.

Speaking to reporters after presenting cash aid to 337 excellent students, the Pengkalan Chepa MP said the leader and her followers may face jail sentences and fines by the respective state authorities if found guilty.

The government recently agreed to gazette the movement as deviant teaching as it contained elements touching on Islamic beliefs and teachings.

Police had investigated the PMYT movement after several videos linked to "Sittah Annur" went viral.

The 39-year-old suspect was arrested by police and later released.
