Non-health related vaccine refusal among civil servants to be discussed

KUALA LUMPUR: The Health Ministry will discuss with the Public Service Department (PSD) on actions that can be taken against civil servants who refused to get vaccinated against Covid-19 unless there are health reasons for their refusal.

Its minister Khairy Jamaluddin said these civil servants had chosen not get themselves vaccinated not because they were sick, but because they just did not want to.

"The ministry will discuss this with the PSD, get feedback from the department on actions that can be taken against this group of civil servants," he told reporters during his working visit to Kedah today.

Khairy said the ministry had also asked employers in certain sectors to come out with a vaccination requirement for their workforce.

"I have asked employers and certain sectors to come with a condition to encourage their employees to get vaccinated before they can return to work (in a physical work setting)," he said.

Khairy had earlier chaired a meeting, which was conducted in a hybrid manner, among top leaders in the Kedah State Department.

Present during the meeting were the ministry secretary-general Datuk Mohd Shafiq Abdullah and Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.
