Young mother succumbs to Covid-19

KOTA BARU: A 29-year-old accountant from Kuantan, Pahang was married for only eight months and was a mother for almost eight days before she died of Covid-19.

Norfarha Alia Mohd Sukri was warded at Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital in Kuala Terengganu on Aug 7 after she was infected with the virus. It was believed that she might have contracted Covid-19 from her 28-year-old husband Muhammad Syazreen Wahid, who works in the Gebeng port.

According to her sister Norfarhan, Alia was about seven months pregnant when she was warded at the hospital.

"Several days after she was warded, doctors told us that they need to operate on Alia to save her baby.

"She then delivered the premature baby girl on Aug 18.

'She could not even see and hug her baby. Doctors had to put her into induced coma on Aug 23. She died at the hospital's intensive care unit on Aug 26," said Norfarhan, a 33-year-old mother of two.

Norfarhan said Alia, the second of three siblings, was married to Syazreen at their home in Kuantan, Pahang on Jan 2.

She said her body was buried at a cemetery in a village in Kemaman, Terengganu on Aug 27.

She added their parents, both from Kelantan, had accepted Alia's death as a fate.

"Our parents especially my mother Salwani Abdullah, are still mourning over her death.

"However, we will ensure her daughter Aiesya Humaira, who is currently under the care of her father, will be taken care of," she said.

Norfarhan who has been uploading Alia's condition on her Facebook posting since the first day her youngest sister was warded, received a lot of well wishes from netizens.
