Selangor records highest number of new Covid-19 infections, again

KUALA LUMPUR: Selangor has returned as the state with the highest number of new Covid-19 infections, surpassing Sarawak, as of noon today.

Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the country reported 14,990 new cases today, including five imported cases.

Of the new cases logged today, Selangor accounted for 2,414 cases while Kuala Lumpur recorded 338 cases and another 30 cases were detected in Putrajaya.

Outside the Klang Valley, Johor logged the highest number of new infections (1,880 cases), followed by Sarawak (1,712), Kelantan (1,573), Perak (1,490), Penang (1,224), Sabah (1,199) and Kedah (1,007).

Meanwhile, Terengganu reported 852 new cases, followed by Pahang (688), Melaka (313), Negri Sembilan (170), and Perlis (97).

Labuan reported the least number of new cases with only three infections detected on the island over the past 24 hours.

The total tally of Covid-19 cases in the country currently stands at 2,142,924.

As of noon today, 1,115 individuals infected with the virus were being treated at Intensive Care Unit (ICU) wards nationwide, including 618 patients who have been placed on respiratory support.

The bulk of new cases reported today comprised Category One and Two infections (14,652 cases) while only 338 cases were classified under Category Three, Four and Five.
