Covid-19 death toll crosses 25k mark

KUALA LUMPUR: The Covid-19 death toll crossed the 25,000 mark with 228 more deaths recorded yesterday (Saturday).

Fatalities now stand at 25,159, according to data shared by the Health Ministry on the CovidNow website as of 11.59pm last night.

A total 36 were brought-in-dead (BID) cases bringing the tally to 4,923.

The seven-day average of actual deaths was 89.

Form the total, 78 deaths were recorded in the Klang Valley; 75 in Selangor and three in Kuala Lumpur.

Johor reported 56 deaths, Sabah (19), Kelantan (18), Kedah (15), Perak (14), Sarawak (9), Penang (8), Melaka (4), Terengganu (4), and Pahang (3).

At the national level, there were 5.8 deaths per 100,000 people over the past two weeks.

Penang recorded the most number of deaths in the same period with 14.7 per 100,000 people followed by 11.5 in Johor and 7.3 in Sabah.

There are 191,434 active Covid-19 cases nationwide with 161,889 or 84.6 per cent of patients under home quarantine.

Another 18,589 patients or 9.7 per cent of them are placed at the Covid-19 Quarantine and Low-Risk Treatment Centre (PKRC), while 9,886 patients or 5.2 per cent are hospitalised.

There are 1,070 patients warded at Intensive Care Units (ICU) with 598 on ventilator support.

The CovidNow site also stated that Penang has the highest ICU utilisation rate at 100 per cent followed by Perak at 86.8 per cent and Putrajaya with 85 per cent.

On vaccinations, 83.1 per cent of the adult population nationwide are now fully vaccinated, while 93.6 per cent have received at least one dose.

To date, 25.2 per cent of adolescents aged between 12 and 17-years have received at least one dose, while 0.9 per cent have been fully vaccinated against the virus.

The highest number of adolescents who have been immunised is in Labuan with 68.2 per cent.

By Nov 7, 80 per cent of adolescents or 2.5 million are expected to be fully vaccinated after the immunisation for the age group began on Sept 8.

Data also shows that as of yesterday, 65 per cent of Pfizer vaccines had been dispensed this month followed by 25.6 per cent of Sinovac and 8.4 per cent of Astrazeneca. The administering of the Cansino vaccine was at one per cent.
